As near as we can tell, somewhere along the way in one of the many
thousands of Windows Updates, something in Windows and AVG aren't playing nice
together anymore. On some computers you will be prompted to restart your
machine to complete an AVG update. While not a big deal, we think too much
of our lives are spent restarting Windows. We call it the GNP, but that's
another story for another time.
If you find that your computer is frequently prompting for a restart after an
AVG update, try one of the two options listed below:
Option 1
1. Open up AVG by clicking on their icon in the system tray.
2. Go to the AVG Control Center if it doesn't open up there automatically.
3. Highlight Update Manager.
4. Click on the Settings button on the bottom of the page.
5. Click on the Advanced tab of the window that opens.
6. Click on the Delete update temporary files button.
7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of that window.
8. When you are back to the window you started at, highlight Update
Manager again.
9. Click on the Update button and download and install any updates
shown.
You sometimes have to go through this process twice.
This will usually cure the problem without a restart. Hopefully there will
be a fix soon, but it is a free product so I am sure their programmers have
bigger fish to fry.
Option 2
Upgrade to AVG version
